  • Brandon Kourie

    Artist/ Live Painting

My practice is based around taking creative approaches in art making by using expressive marks and taking risks. I often work without reference materials, allowing myself to respond to improvisations that happen when I allow feeling to guide my paint strokes. I rarely begin a painting with any specific image in mind or idea of what I want the work to be. The ideas take shape as I add to the painting and spend time analyzing it, deconstructing the composition and evaluating which elements are working and which are not. I often purposely cover up parts of paintings I like in order to carve out a new path for what the painting could be. I try to leave areas from each painted layer showing through to the final surface as a documentation of the process of the work- like a trail of breadcrumbs for other art makers to follow to understand how the piece was visually constructed. Something raw, and honest. To me these works become a visual journey of the therapeutic introspection involved in making them. My hope is to have my art connect with the viewer to create a space for reflection- that experiencing the painting leads to experiencing a part of yourself.

  • Virginia Holmes

    Artist/ Live Painting

Artistry is my passion, serving as both a creative outlet and a therapeutic endeavor. Hailing from Greensboro, NC, I’ve journeyed through various forms of expression, initially finding solace in theater during my youth. However, it was through the medium of abstract painting that I truly discovered the power of art to encapsulate and convey profound emotions. My work draws inspiration from the tumultuous yet captivating styles of Jackson Pollock and the evocative verses of Edgar Allan Poe. Utilizing a palette of vibrant hues, pastels, and neon tones, I strive to translate the depths of my innermost feelings onto canvas, employing techniques such as motion, circles, spirals, drip paint, and splatters. My preferred mediums include acrylic paints, spray paint, tape, and recyclable materials, often applied to multi-surface canvases. Drawing from a myriad of influences, including music, poetry, personal interactions, and historical contexts, I seek to infuse each piece with layers of meaning and introspection. While I do not purport to hold all the answers to life’s complexities, I believe that artists possess a unique ability to give form and substance to their innermost truths, whether through objective representation or subjective interpretation. Through my art, I endeavor to offer viewers a glimpse into the depths of human experience and emotion, inviting them to contemplate and connect with the universal language of visual expression.

Continuing to raise awareness about current events, a history untold, and honoring the natural world are objectives Walsh is furthering through her use of diverse media. The actualization of thought-provoking art, impactful to the community-at-large, is an extension of that goal.
